Wake Up Call
Posted by Mandy in Wife, tags: husband, lose weight, obesity, weight watchersMy husband is five foot nine inches tall and in the picture shown here, he is just shy of 200 pounds. He had love flowing over his swim trunks in those love handles. This picture was taken late in the summer of 2007. After the end of year holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years), my husband climbed upon a scale at is spat out 198 pounds. He came to me and said, “I have to do something!” Well, I started up with the Weight Watchers Flex Plan around February and my husband supported me, counted points with me, and he occasionally exercised (about 10 to 15 minutes a day). He did not climb back on a scale for about 12 weeks. But when he finally did, oh boy was he a happy camper! He had dropped from 198 pounds with a BMI (body mass index – how much of your body is fat) of 24% down to 164 pounds with a BMI of 18%. He was so surprised that by supporting me, he reaped the benefits. All he did was eat my recipes, learn about portions and combined that with about 100 sit ups each day and 100 push ups every other day. Look at my hubby now. He’s no He-Man, but he is slimmer, in better shape, and has more energy in general (running places instead of walking).
He was wearing a size 36 inch waist.?The picture of him in his jeans shows how much 30 pounds around center can amount to. Now my husband is wearing a size 32 inch waist which you can see in his camo shorts. And if you look carefully, his love handles have pretty much went bye bye. We recently had to go clothes shopping and buy him a new wardrobe of clothes. He tried to use a belt for the longest time. Can you imagine him in those jeans with a belt cinched down to hold them up? My husband still does his 10 to 15 minutes of exercises per day, watches his portions and counts his points. He supports me 100% and when I reach my goal, he wants me to post my story with my pictures on here. We’ll see about that one. Weight loss and a healthy diet did more for my husband than mere aesthetics. It made him feel better. He became a happier person. He was already a confident man, but it gave him more confidence. Which, any of you who know him may think that that is hard to do. But he gained more self confidence. He also became more energetic and actually wants to help cook now.
People do interventions for drugs, alcohol, smoking, and many other destructive behaviors. Not many people have the?guts to tell a friend or family member that they need to eat better and exercise. Being overweight and death associated with obesity is the number one killer in the US. Do not be afraid of hurting someones feelings if you truly love and care for them. Wouldn’t you rather tell them they need help than to wish you had said something while attending their funeral? Give them your support or at least direct them to where they can get support. People who have support are more likely to succeed than those who do not. You can direct them to this site and our community will give them as much support as they are willing to put forth effort. It will make them happier and feel all around better. It did for my husband and I know it will for you and/or your loved one.
